Local Outreach

At St. Davids-Queenston, 'Local Outreach' means supporting those projects, activities and organizations that provide service to those in our community who are vulnerable, marginalized or in need.  It means a visit by a member of our Friendly Visitors committee to members of our congregation who cannot otherwise attend weekly worship services. It means opening our doors to the community. It means lending a helping hand. Below is information about three activities at our church that support local outreach.

Tooney Sundays

Tooney Sundays occur on the first Sunday of each month for hands-on outreach projects Congregation members are encouraged to drop a few Tooneys in the box. Everu four months we choose a different charity for which we donate our tooneys. Locally, we have purchased baby supplies for Hannah House in Niagara Falls, personal items for Women’s Place in St. Catharines, a safe shelter for battered women and their children, and money donations to The Raft in St. Catharines for homeless or at-risk teenagers, the Wellspring Niagara Cancer Support Service in St. Catharines and Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton. We have also used these funds to purchase medical, educational and personal items for towns in Peru through Brock University students, medical supplies for Uganda via McMaster University students, several hundred toothbrushes for a community in Haiti, money donations to the East African Drought Fund and the Stephen Lewis Foundation helping grandmothers in Africa taking care of their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS. This money is used to support local charities and support organizations in the Niagara region. Annually, we make a donation to the Community Care Food Bank or the Salvation Army Christmas basket.
There are so many organizations out there in need of help. A tooney or two each month is not much to give, but collectively we can make a difference for better in the lives of others.

Benevolent Fund

The Benevolent Fund was established by the Worship and Faith Life Committee in order to provide needed funds for local community and individual needs on an as required basis. Periodic free-will offerings during special services like the Christmas Candlelight Service are deposited in the Benevolent Fund. The Benevolent Fund is managed by the Finance Committee.
